How to Distinguish "Burnished"?

I noticed the US Mint announcement that they are discontinuing the manufacture of the burnished AGE fractionals that were made, I believe, just the past three years. They have the "W" mintmark on them.

Aren't there other AGE fractionals that also have the same mintmark from earlier years? How can you tell if a coin is one of the ones made on the burnished blanks that are being discontinued?

I've been chasing you from thread to thread..........and yes (from the other thread) some of us DO care about the Mints changes - but we've also had a few threads on it so far - sometimes people, not saying you, post things without looking to see if anyone else has - so after a few threads on a topic people stop opening repeat threads.

The SAE burninshed coins started with the 2006 20th Anniversary of the coin and series - and was continued thru this year - so there were, basically, three years of them........

As far as I know - those were the only BURNISHED SAE with the special W mintmark 9tho, as you have been told - proof coins also have the W - but they are almost a mirrored background - nothing like the burnishedP)....those burnished SAE from 2006 have a good premium on them...the others a small one.

Hope that helps.

Cheers!

Sorry to be repetitive, Master - it was suggested on the thread on the other forum section that I might get a better answer here in Numanistics.

The first gold purchases I made happened to be for more than a dozen slabbed 2007-W fractional AGEs, so I've been trying to figure out if I got lucky or if my "if it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all" routine is still running my life. I ended up with more than half of what I have in gold being dates from 2006 thru 2008, with the "W" mark - that's why I've been perhaps too persistent in trying to figure it out. I wasn't in search of slabbed coins - but they were the best deal on ebay at the time, considering Mr. Softy's cashback.

Apologies from the chastened newbie, who will now crawl back quietly into her corner and stay there for a while . . .

NO! NO! NO! - you come back here! *lol*

I have to apologize - I misread something on the other thread and thought we were talking about the ASE, but you were talking gold, not silver........

First - sometimes you can get slabbed coins for the same price as bullion (or a couple of dollars more) and thats a great buy if you can find them.....

There were gold eagles from 2006 & 2007 with, and without, W mintmarks.........but according to PCGS, there is no real difference in premium between them.......some fractionals have a slight premium over others, I am assuming based on how many of each was sold.

If you PM me, I can tell you want the different fractionals are going for - but I will need the MS numbers with the dates and fractional size.

Cheers!

Speaking of US Mint stuff, any one know when the new penny proof set will be issued?
